AllPeopleBeHappy foundation was established on August 29, 2007 by the family and friends of Eric Tang, following his untimely death at the young age of 25. The Foundation was borne out of Eric's hope that All People Be Happy, which he used as the pseudonym for his blog. A memorial website dedicated to the memory of Eric Tang can be found at AllPeopleBeHappy.info.
The AllPeopleBeHappy foundation received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status on November 20, 2007. In 2007, in order to fulfill its mission of supporting new and innovative organizations working to alleviate global poverty, the Foundation made grants to Room to Read, Young Heroes, Invisible Children, Medical Bridges, FORGE, A Glimmer of Hope, Acumen Fund, Nothing But Nets, UNA-USA's HERO, and UNHCR's NineMillion. Micro-loans were also made through Kiva.org.
In 2008, the Foundation made 8 grants totalling $82,000 to eight US-based non-profits: Young Heroes (doing work in Swaziland), Orphans Against AIDS (Thailand), The Equilibrium Fund (Nicaragua), One Acre Fund (Kenya), Amizade (Tanzania), Support for International Change (Tanzania), Room to Read (Sri Lanka), and Village Health Works (Burundi).
In 2009, the Foundation made 10 major grants totalling $102,000 to The Equilibrium Fund (Nicaragua, Honduras), One Acre Fund (Kenya), Amizade (Tanzania), Support for International Change (Tanzania), Room to Read (Sri Lanka), ETASHA Society (India), Indego Africa (Rwanda), The Kossoye Project (Ethopia), and Comunidad Connect (Nicaragua). We also made 7 small grants and 2 minigrants.
